Mount St. Michael is seeking an Assistant Guide for a Montessori (3K-5K) class.

The Assistant Guides work cohesively with the lead teachers. The job duties range from organizing materials and cleaning the workspace to facilitating the learning process for each child. All assistants are expected to support the Montessori teaching method. Specifically, they must help guide the child through self-directed activities, allowing the child to develop at his or her own pace. They are expected to foster, along with the lead teachers, a nurturing and stimulating non-competitive environment

 

  • Our Montessori Assistant Guide will work with children in our Children’s House program aged 3-6 in a classroom setting consisting of 1 Lead Guide and 1 Assistant Guide.
  • The Assistant Guide will help support the children through their classroom experience, including assisting with nap time, snack time, lunch, the work cycle, and other daily transitions in the classroom.
  • The Assistant Guide will help to maintain a clean and tidy indoor and outdoor environment for all children in coordination with the Lead Guide in order to provide a safe space for learning.

The Assistant Guide will assist in maintaining an ongoing dialogue with her Lead Guide on all matters relating to the Children’s House environment as well as the students and parents.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED, required
  • Catholic knowledge and background preferred
  • Passion for working with young children
  • Is familiar or has experience with the Montessori philosophy, methodology and/or environment
  • Strong commitment to equity and inclusion practices and curriculum in the classroom
  • A commitment to personal and professional development
  • Is a creative individual and team player
  • Ability to maintain calm and focus
  • Operates with a high level of integrity
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to learn positive language, new tools and conflict resolution strategies from the Montessori team
  • Flexible and adaptable
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions
