SUMMARY
The Director of Communications is responsible for the implementation of the goals of Catholic education as outlined in The Holy See’s Teaching on Catholic Schools (Archbishop Michael Miller):

Qualified candidates will be driven and inspired by the mission of Catholic schools to form young men and women in a high school setting “who will be good citizens of the world, loving God and neighbor and enriching society with the leaven of the gospel, and who will also be good citizens of the world to come, thus fulfilling their destiny to become saints” (Miller 20).
The Director of Communications is responsible for all external communication for Bishop Lynch High School, as well as the promotion of BLHS through social media, press releases, advertisements, publicity, community engagement, e-newsletters and printed materials. The Director of Communications supports the school’s goals of enhancing the image and influence of the school by marketing and promoting the mission of the school. Direct reports of the Director of Communications include the webmaster, graphic designer, visual communications and sports information associates. This position reports to the Chief Advancement Officer.
JOB EXPECTATIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
Works with the Director of Communications for the Diocese of Dallas to pitch positive story ideas to the media
Writes and/or edits all school-wide communications to ensure consistent and mission-aligned messaging
Writes articles for weekly school e-newsletter and biannual alumni magazine
Coordinates and facilitates interviews for the purpose of ensuring accurate information is disseminated
Provides leadership and direction in creating advancement, admissions, alumni, communications and marketing strategies to advance Bishop Lynch High School’s vision and goals among internal and external groups
Responsible for Crisis Communications Plan, as well as making regular updates to it
Promotes and obtains positive exposure for the school through various media and social outlets: newspapers (citywide, neighborhood and suburban), parish bulletins, feeder school newsletters
Works with Director of Enrollment Management to oversee digital marketing campaign
Responsible for collaboration, editing and production of all school publications
Arranges photography to use for promotional, marketing and historic purposes
Responsible for the integrity and proper use of the “BL brand” – through maintaining and publicizing the BLHS Style Guide
Develop and manage the Communications Budget (publications, advertising and printing/promotional)
Responds to emergency situations both during and after normal working hours for the purpose of receiving and conveying information needed for effective decision making
Other duties as assigned for the efficient operation of the department
QUALIFICATIONS
B.A. degree in marketing, public relations or a related field required
5+ years relevant experience required
Ability to think and plan strategically and creatively
Superior interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills required
Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and willingness to learn and work in new database systems
